Making a Career Change After 30 Years in Education
About a year ago, I made the decision to wrap up my long-term career as an educator and school administrator. That deeply meaningful chapter officially closed on June 30th of this year. It was a major life transition, one made even more emotional by moving out of our family home after more than twenty years.
While overwhelming at times, these changes felt deeply right. They opened the door to something new, unknown, and filled with potential. I’ll admit, I felt paralyzed and uncertain at first. But also, frankly? I was excited.
Small, Intentional Steps Toward Growth
These major shifts made me realize that true growth, personally and professionally, doesn’t always come from bold leaps. Sometimes, it’s the small, consistent steps that lead to lasting change.
Personal Side: Fitness, Family & Fulfillment
Family has always been central to me, but as a working mom, I made my fair share of compromises. So, during this time of transition, I prioritized spending more time with my children and just being present.
I also returned to something I hadn’t done in over a decade: running. Living near Golden Gate Park, I challenged myself to go a little farther each time. The first week, I made it to the De Young Museum, then the waterfall, then the Whale Tail, followed by the bison paddock and eventually, I reached the ocean!
That slow and steady progress reminded me that it’s not about speed, but about showing up. Building habits. Creating momentum. (Side note: the new sea serpent sculpture at the waterfall is worth a visit.)
Professional Side: Embracing Consulting and Coaching
This new chapter also marks a big career pivot from full-time school administrator to a more focused path: consulting, coaching, and public speaking in the education sector.
I’m now channeling my 30+ years of experience into supporting schools, educators, and leadership teams across the San Francisco Bay Area. Whether it’s school improvement consulting, leadership coaching, or facilitating workshops, my goal is to continue making an impact by working on the projects and causes that matter most to me.
What's Next?
I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has supported me during this transition. I’m energized, inspired, and genuinely excited for what lies ahead.
